Common dryer problems we fix

• Dryer runs but produces no heat. The number one cause is a clogged vent that blows the thermal fuse as a safety cutoff. If the vent is clear, we check for a blown thermal fuse, failed heating element (electric), or bad igniter and gas valve coils (gas).
• Dryer takes multiple cycles to dry clothes. This is almost always a restricted dryer vent. We inspect the full duct from the machine to the exterior cap. If the vent is clear, a weakening heating element or moisture sensor is usually the cause.
• Dryer drum not turning. The drive belt is the first thing to check — it wears and snaps over time. We also inspect the drum rollers, idler pulley, and motor if the belt is intact but the drum still won't move.
• Dryer making grinding or squealing noise. Worn drum support rollers are the most common culprit. A squealing noise during tumbling typically means the felt drum seal or idler pulley bearing has worn out — both are straightforward replacements.
• Dryer shuts off mid-cycle. A partially clogged vent causes the dryer to overheat and trip the thermal cutoff as a safety measure. We clean the vent and replace the cutoff. If overheating isn't the cause, we check the cycling thermostat and control board.
• Burning smell from the dryer. Take this seriously — shut the dryer off. A burning smell is almost always lint accumulation in the duct or on the heating element, or a failing drum seal rubbing against the drum. We identify and eliminate the source.
