When AC fails in Chicago, every minute matters

A broken AC in a Chicago summer isn't an inconvenience — it's a safety issue. Indoor temperatures climb fast in our humid Midwest summers, especially in older brick homes and top-floor condos. Heat is dangerous for kids, seniors, pets, and anyone with health conditions.

SAVA HVAC answers emergency AC calls 24 hours a day, 7 days a week — including nights, weekends, and holidays. When you call, we check the schedule and give you an honest arrival window based on what's actually available.

What to tell us when you call

An emergency call moves faster when we know what we are walking into. It helps to know:

  1. Thermostat — is the screen lit or blank, what is it set to, and what is it reading?
  2. Outdoor unit — is it running, silent, or humming without the fan turning?
  3. Indoor blower — is air still coming from the vents, warm or cold?
  4. What changed — did it stop suddenly, fade over days, or follow a storm or power cut?

Don't keep cycling the system on and off — that can damage the compressor. If it has stopped cooling, leave it OFF and call us.

🚨 Call us immediately if you have:

  1. Burning electrical smell from the indoor or outdoor unit
  2. Water leaking near the indoor air handler or onto the ceiling below it
  3. AC completely off during a heat advisory (especially with kids, seniors, or pets at home)
  4. Loud grinding, banging, or screeching from the outdoor unit
  5. Ice or frost on the refrigerant lines or indoor coil
  6. Smoke from any part of the system — shut off the breaker and call us

What we fix same-day

Most AC failures we see in Chicago can be resolved when parts are on the truck:

Capacitor failure
Most common AC no-start cause.
Fan motor problems
Outdoor fan not spinning or wobbling.
Thermostat issues
Diagnose, replace, or rewire as needed.
Blown fuses
Indoor or outdoor — find the cause too.
Control board faults
Often the hidden cause when nothing else works.
Frozen coil
Thaw + diagnose root cause.
Drain line clogs
Water leak fix + condensate clearing.
Refrigerant top-off
When system has documented warranty/leak repair.

Compressor replacement and other major component swaps may need parts to be ordered. We'll tell you upfront if that's the case.

What we DON'T service

To set honest expectations: SAVA HVAC does not service window air conditioners or portable AC units. We focus on central AC, mini-split systems, and whole-house cooling — that's where our certifications and parts inventory live.

What happens when you call

  1. You call — describe what's happening with the AC (or just say "AC is out")
  2. We confirm your address — make sure you're in our service area
  3. We check availability — give you the fastest honest arrival window
  4. Tech arrives — diagnose, walk you through what we found, you approve before any work begins
  5. Most repairs done same visit — if a part needs ordering, we tell you upfront

Same-day arrival depends on what's available when you call. We don't promise a time we can't keep — when you call, we check the schedule and give you an honest window.
All major central AC brands: Carrier, Trane, Lennox, Goodman, Rheem, American Standard, Bryant, York, Amana, Heil, Ruud, Payne, Mitsubishi, Daikin, LG, and more. EPA Section 608 certified for refrigerant work.
No. SAVA only services central AC, mini-split, and whole-house cooling systems. We do not repair window units or portable AC units.
No. Short-cycling the AC (turning it on and off repeatedly) can damage the compressor. Leave it OFF until we get there.
That usually means low refrigerant, a frozen coil, a failed capacitor, or a thermostat misconfiguration. Turn the system off so the coil can thaw if it's frozen, and call us.
Close blinds on sunny windows, run fans, stay hydrated, and move pets, seniors, and young children to the coolest room (usually a basement). Call us at (773) 558-3332 — heat advisory calls are top priority for same-day dispatch.
Yes, especially if the leak is dripping onto a ceiling, into a finished basement, or near electrical wiring. Turn the AC off at the thermostat to stop more water from accumulating, place a bucket if needed, and call us right away.
