Local Homes
Vernon Hills is a newer suburb: the typical home was built around 1991. Its roughly 11,500 homes are a mix — 38% detached houses, 22% townhomes, 13% in two- to four-unit buildings and 17% in buildings with 20 or more units (Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning, Community Data Snapshots 2026).
A home from the early 1990s is likely on its second furnace and air conditioner by now. Townhomes and many condos have their own systems, serviced the same way as a house; where heating and cooling are shared by the building, management usually handles them. Appliance repair is the same in every type of home: kitchen and laundry, premium brands and regular ones.
