SAVA HVAC & Appliance Repair services Cove dishwashers across Chicago and the North Shore, and Cove is one of the few premium brands where an error code can be read against the manufacturer’s own definition. The Sub-Zero Group, which makes Cove, publishes the meaning of many Cove codes on its support site. The codes are six digits, usually written in pairs — 80 01 40, for example — and in the codes Sub-Zero publishes, the first pair groups them by system: 05 for the wash pump drive, 20 for the heater, 56 for water flow, 58 and 70 for the pressure sensor, 60 for the diverter valve, 80 for the drain pump, 90 for the controls and 98 for power interruptions. A code tells a technician which system to test first; it is not a diagnosis on its own. Diagnosis is $79, credited toward the repair.
Cove error codes by system
The meanings below are Sub-Zero’s own. The right-hand column is what we test when we see each one — because most codes can be triggered by more than one fault.

Sub-Zero publishes many Cove codes but not every code a Cove can show. If yours is not listed here, the first pair of digits still tells us which system to look at.
What a Cove code cannot tell you
A code names the symptom the control detected, not the part that caused it. 80 01 40 appears whether the drain hose is kinked under the sink, the air gap is blocked, the garbage disposal connection is plugged or the drain pump itself has failed. A pressure-sensor code can mean the sensor has failed — or that it is reporting, correctly, that water is not arriving or not leaving. That is why we treat the code as the place to start testing, and why a part chosen from a code alone is often the wrong one.
A code that clears after a power interruption and never returns may have been a one-off. A code that comes back is a genuine fault, and continuing to run the dishwasher through it can turn a small repair into a larger one — particularly with water-level and drain codes, where water may be ending up somewhere it should not.
Heater and water-supply codes in cold weather
Sub-Zero notes that 20 01 93 — the heater staying on too long — can be caused by a water supply line so cold that the water takes too long to reach temperature on the hotter cycles. In a Chicago winter, a dishwasher on an outside wall or fed through an unheated space is exactly where that happens. It is one of the reasons we ask where the dishwasher sits and how the supply reaches it before we assume the heater has failed.
Is your Cove still under warranty?
Cove launched in 2018 with a five-year warranty covering all parts and service. The first production models, the DW2450 and DW2450WS, were built from 2019 to 2025, and the DW2451 and DW2451WS, including ADA-height versions, replaced them in 2025. A Cove still inside its warranty should go through Cove’s own service network. The earliest units are now outside it, and those are the ones we are most often called to repair.
What to tell us when you call
The more you can describe, the better the chance we arrive with the right part already on the truck. It helps to know:
- The full code exactly as it appears — all six digits
- When it appeared: at the start of a cycle, mid-wash, or while draining
- Whether there is water left standing in the tub
- The model and serial number
- Whether the dishwasher drains through a garbage disposal or an air gap
