When the furnace fails in a Chicago winter, every hour matters
No heat in Chicago isn't just uncomfortable — it can be dangerous. Indoor temperatures drop fast when outdoor temps plunge below freezing, and frozen pipes can cause thousands in water damage within hours. Cold is especially risky for kids, seniors, pets, and anyone with health conditions.
SAVA HVAC answers emergency furnace calls 24 hours a day, 7 days a week — including nights, weekends, and holidays. When you call, we check the schedule and give you an honest arrival window based on what's actually available.

⚠️ If you smell gas — leave the house first
- Do NOT use light switches, phones, or anything that could spark inside the house
- Leave the house immediately and take pets with you
- From outside, call your gas utility's emergency line:
Peoples Gas: (866) 556-6004
Nicor Gas: (888) 642-6748
- Once the gas leak is shut off and the utility clears the home, call SAVA to diagnose the furnace at (773) 558-3332
What to tell us when you call
A no-heat call moves faster when we know what we are walking into. It helps to know:
- Thermostat — is the screen lit or blank, what is it set to, and what is it reading?
- What the furnace does — nothing at all, or does it start and shut down after a few minutes?
- Control board LED — most furnaces blink a fault code through a small window. Count the flashes.
- What changed — did it stop suddenly, struggle for days first, or follow a storm or power cut?
Don't keep resetting the furnace — repeated reset attempts can flood the burner with unignited gas. If it has stopped producing heat, leave it OFF and call us.
🚨 Call us immediately if you have:
- No heat in subzero weather — pipes can freeze and burst within hours
- Carbon monoxide alarm sounding — leave the house, call 911, then call us
- Burning smell from the furnace or vents
- Loud banging, rumbling, or grinding from the unit
- Soot or black marks around the furnace or vents
- Water leaking from the furnace or boiler
- Yellow or flickering flame (should be steady blue)
What we fix same-day
Most no-heat calls we see in Chicago can be resolved when parts are on the truck:
More on specific symptoms: blowing cold air, not turning on, short cycling, making noise, leaking water, burning smell.

Flame sensorDirty sensor causes short-cycling.
Thermostat issuesDiagnose, replace, or rewire.

Control board faultsOften the hidden cause when nothing else works.
Pressure switchCommon safety lockout failure.

Heat exchanger replacement and major component swaps may need parts to be ordered. We'll tell you upfront if that's the case.

What we DON'T service
To set honest expectations: SAVA HVAC does not service oil furnaces, wood stoves, fireplaces, or standalone space heaters. We focus on gas furnaces, electric furnaces, hot water boilers, and heat pumps — that's where our certifications and parts inventory live.
What happens when you call
- You call — describe what's happening (or just say "no heat")
- We confirm your address — make sure you're in our service area
- We check availability — give you the fastest honest arrival window
- Tech arrives — diagnose, walk you through what we found, you approve before any work begins
- Most repairs done same visit — if a part needs ordering, we tell you upfront
