When the furnace fails in a Chicago winter, every hour matters
No heat in Chicago isn't just uncomfortable — it can be dangerous. Indoor temperatures drop fast when outdoor temps plunge below freezing, and frozen pipes can cause thousands in water damage within hours. Cold is especially risky for kids, seniors, pets, and anyone with health conditions.
SAVA HVAC answers emergency furnace calls 24 hours a day, 7 days a week — including nights, weekends, and holidays. When you call, we check the schedule and give you an honest arrival window based on what's actually available.

⚠️ If you smell gas — leave the house first
- Do NOT use light switches, phones, or anything that could spark inside the house
- Leave the house immediately and take pets with you
- From outside, call your gas utility's emergency line:
Peoples Gas: (866) 556-6004
Nicor Gas: (888) 642-6748
- Once the gas leak is shut off and the utility clears the home, call SAVA to diagnose the furnace at (773) 558-3332
Check these 4 things before you call
Most "no heat" calls are solved by one of these quick checks. Try them first.
- Thermostat — is the screen blank? Replace batteries. Set mode to "Heat" and temp 5° above room temp.
- Breaker & switch — check the electrical panel for a tripped furnace breaker. Also confirm the furnace's on/off switch (often near the unit, looks like a light switch) is ON.
- Air filter — if it's gray, clogged, or hasn't been changed in 3+ months, replace it. A blocked filter can cause safety shutdown.
- Gas valve — confirm the gas valve to the furnace is in the "ON" position (handle parallel to the pipe).
Don't keep resetting the furnace — repeated reset attempts can flood the burner with unignited gas. If the quick checks don't bring it back, leave it OFF and call us.
🚨 Call us immediately if you have:
- No heat in subzero weather — pipes can freeze and burst within hours
- Carbon monoxide alarm sounding — leave the house, call 911, then call us
- Burning smell from the furnace or vents
- Loud banging, rumbling, or grinding from the unit
- Soot or black marks around the furnace or vents
- Water leaking from the furnace or boiler
- Yellow or flickering flame (should be steady blue)

What we DON'T service
To set honest expectations: SAVA HVAC does not service oil furnaces, wood stoves, fireplaces, or standalone space heaters. We focus on gas furnaces, electric furnaces, hot water boilers, and heat pumps — that's where our certifications and parts inventory live.
